He was always promised

EM2021.2 EasterMission website 810x540 V1

After Jesus died and rose to life, He walked and spoke with two of His followers about how the ancient scriptures had always pointed forward to Him.

“‘And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.”

Luke 24:27 (NIV)

This Lent join us on a daily journey through some of the Old and New Testament scriptures that showed the promise of Jesus and His work to rescue us from the darkness of sin. In this daily journey toward Easter may you be encouraged with the truth that God has always had a plan to be with you. He was always promised to us.

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.”

1 Peter 1:18-20 (NIV)

Old Testament Prophecy

Genesis 3:15

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.’”

New Testament Fulfilment

Revelation 12:9, 17

“The great dragon was hurled down – that ancient snake called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him…Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring – those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus.”

From Genesis to Revelation – from the beginning of the Bible to the end – God promised that Jesus would come as Messiah to save us from sinfulness. Thank God in your prayers for the gift of Jesus.

Thursday 18 February

Old Testament Prophecy

Jeremiah 31:31

“‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah.”

New Testament Fulfilment

Hebrews 9:15

“For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance – now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.”

The Holy Almighty God entered into a covenant (agreement) with us because He loves us!

Friday 19 February

Old Testament Prophecy

Psalm 118:22–24

“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvellous in our eyes. The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.”
New Testament Fulfilment

Acts 4:11-12

“Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.' Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.’”

Jesus understands rejection. Give thanks to Him in prayer today for strength in tough times because He understands.

Saturday 20 February

Old Testament Prophecy

Isaiah 7:14

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”

New Testament Fulfilment

Matthew 1:22-23

“All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had said through the prophet: ‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’ (which means ‘God with us’).”

A virgin giving birth to a baby is miraculous, but it did happen! Jesus is still doing amazing things today. What can you thank God for today?

Old Testament Prophecy

Daniel 9:25

“‘Know and understand this: from the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven “sevens”, and sixty-two “sevens”.”

New Testament Fulfilment

Galatians 4:4-5

“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.”

Timing is important to God. But we need to remember that His timing is not always ours. What or who do you need patience with today?

Monday 22 February

Old Testament Prophecy

Isaiah 53:1

“Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”

New Testament Fulfilment

John 12:37-38

“Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. This was to fulfil the word of Isaiah the prophet: ‘Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?’”

It’s hard to believe that people wouldn’t believe in the God of the universe, especially after so many miraculous signs. Thank God for the gift of faith and ask Him in prayer today for even more faith.

210223 EAM2021.2 Lent FacebookInstagram 1200x1200 FEB23Old Testament Prophecy

Malachi 4:5–6

“‘See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.’”

New Testament Fulfilment

Matthew 17:10-13

“The disciples asked him, ‘Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?’ Jesus replied, ‘To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognise him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.’ Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.”

Elijah was a real physical prophet of God, and he also represented a type of prophet, which was fulfilled by John the Baptist. These were two simple men who obediently followed the call of God to declare His love. God has called you as well.
