Broken made new: What's on this Easter?

23 March 2017 Wesley Mission news

This Easter, we are focusing on the concept of broken made new and inviting you to join us in healing, worship, contemplation and celebration throughout Holy Week.

Easter reminds us of the great love that God has for each of us in Jesus Christ. Jesus’ entire ministry on earth, especially His death on the cross, reveals this great love. Jesus drew people to himself: people dealing with issues of brokenness, isolation and exclusion, and people seeking wholeness, compassion and forgiveness.

These encounters gave broken people new life and hope, and that’s exactly what the Word and deed ministry of Wesley Mission is all about—taking broken lives and making them new again.

We will be sharing God’s love with our communities—sending a message of unconditional love and acceptance for us all—through a week long schedule of events, as well as in our regular church and chapel services.

Help re-enact Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. Join us in waving palm branches and singing praises as a reminder to our city that God’s unconditional love makes broken things new.

Rain, hail or shine, we’ll meet under the Cahill Expressway at the Phillip Street end of Circular Quay, before proceeding along the harbour foreshore to the Sydney Opera House.

Celebrating its 53rd year, Wesley Mission’s annual Easter Breakfast draws professionals from diverse backgrounds to meet and network with new friends, while enjoying a hot breakfast.

This year we welcome internationally acclaimed artist and award-winning musician, Colin Buchanan (pictured above), as our special guest.

He will sing a song from his new album, Calvary Road, and speak with the Rev Keith Garner about sharing his music and his Christian faith.

The Rev Keith Garner will then deliver his 2017 Easter address on the theme, ‘broken made new’.

Places are limited, so be sure to RSVP by 7 April.

Good Friday: witness Christ’s final hours

Every year, hundreds of parishioners, supporters and passers-by share in the joy of our Good Friday street theatre and procession.

On the first Good Friday, Jesus took the burden of our sin, creating an opportunity for us all to be made new through God’s unconditional love. We bring this to life in the Sydney CBD with a moving re-enactment of Christ’s final hours, followed by the Journey of the Cross procession down Pitt Street to the Wesley Centre where you are invited to attend a special observance service.

So set your clock for an early start, and be a part of our live congregation as we share the resurrection story, Jesus Risen, and the opportunity for us all to be made new.

Can’t make it? No problem. The service will be broadcast live on Channel 9, simulcast on Hope 103.2 and 89.9 Light FM and livestreamed right here on

Holy Week worship

Our Wesley Mission congregations will hold our regular church services throughout Holy Week at the Wesley Centre and around Sydney. The Easter message will be consistent—through our experience of brokenness, we all have the opportunity to be made new through the unconditional love of Jesus Christ.
