Christmas is God-with-us
Recently, we held our first Blue Christmas service at Wesley Mission.
The service was designed especially for those who may find the festive season difficult, and provided time out from the hustle and bustle of the season to allow for some contemplation and reflection. Many of the attendees said they found the service encouraging.
As part of the service, attendees were given permission to acknowledge the pain and grief that may not disappear just because it’s Christmas time. Candles were lit in remembrance of those who have passed away or who are no longer a part of our lives.
A beautiful poem by Ann Weems expressed the heartfelt cry of many who struggle at this time of year. It also reminds us that Jesus sees the tears and has compassion on those who hurt.
and in his weeping,
he joined himself forever
to those who mourn.
He stands now throughout all time,
this Jesus weeping,
with his arms about the weeping ones:
“Blessed are those who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.”
He stands with the mourners,
for his name is God-with-us.
Our prayer for you this Christmas season is that you too will experience the peace and comfort of the presence of Christ.
You are also invited to join us this Christmas Day to celebrate the birth of Jesus and the meaning of the season. Find a location near you
