Team Wesley Mission raises funds at 2018 Sydney Running Festival
Last Sunday, Wesley Mission staff had the privilege of participating in the 2018 Blackmores Sydney Running Festival, an iconic Sydney event with more than 37,000 runners in attendance. The Sydney weather was cool and windy, but our runners persevered through a variety of courses (from a 3.5km fun run to a full marathon) to raise money for those who are most in need in the community.
"It was my first time at the Sydney Running Festival, and it was exciting to do the 10km run with the family. I have an 11-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son, so I was a bit anxious about their completing it, but we all paced our runs and finished within 90 minutes, which we were very happy about.
"It was a proud moment for the children and myself to wear the Wesley Mission gear and bond over running the event." Jeannie Mathews, Program Coordinator at Wesley School for Seniors
"I was really happy to be able to take part in the Sydney Running Festival this year. 10k is something I've never run before, and in all honesty, I registered to run it by mistake, since I had intended to run the 3.5k!
"But when I thought about all of the people Wesley Mission supports, as well as the staff who push themselves on a daily basis, I thought I could do the same. Thank you to those who supported Wesley Mission through donating and participating!" Rose Burnley, Case Manager at Wesley Out-of-Home Care Penrith
Our corporate partner AMP once again threw their support behind Wesley Aunties & Uncles, which supports disadvantaged children under 12 years of age by providing them with trained 'aunties' and 'uncles' who invest in their lives through mentoring, care, and guidance. This year, AMP runners closed in on their goal of raising $22,500 for Bottles for Bikes, a project that aims to supply every child at the annual Aunties & Uncles Picnic with a bicycle.
Wesley Mission would like to thank everyone who was involved with Team Wesley this year, from runners, supporters, partners, and volunteers. Your efforts and donations will make a real difference to those in need.
