Wesley Mission Volunteers Give Happy, Live Happy

15 May 2015 Wesley Mission news

Corporate Partnerships 810x540 1This week, Wesley Mission’s wonderful volunteers have been embracing the spirit of National Volunteer Week, 11–15 May, with a range of events held across Wesley Mission services to recognise the essential contribution they make to our work.

The CEO of Wesley Mission, Rev Dr Keith Garner, spoke at a morning tea in partnership with the Hilton in Sydney’s CBD on Thursday 14 May, recognising the wonderful contribution volunteers continue to make to our work. Wesley Mission also held special ‘thank you’ events for volunteers across NSW.

Volunteers are a crucial part of Wesley Mission’s work to help those in need and altogether last year they clocked up more than 133,816 hours of service. This is the equivalent of 67 full-time workers. Figures like this prove just how important volunteers are to our work.

This year’s theme for National Volunteer Week was Give Happy, Live Happy, with the accompanying research showing that those who volunteer are happier, healthier and sleep better than those who don’t.

Wesley Volunteering has just announced the introduction of online training for Wesley Mission’s 3,000-plus volunteers in Work Health and Safety Fundamentals, Risk Management, Office Ergonomics, and Bullying and Harassment.

National Volunteer Week provides an opportunity to highlight the role of volunteers in our community and to say thank you to the more than six million Australians who volunteer.
